TRAP

Basics Below!

Trap is the first of three disciplines that we shoot here at PTSC. On a trap field, a single machine is centered in the middle of the range, approximately 16 yards ahead of the shooters. There are 5 stations from which shooters aim at the targets, which are thrown at a constant height, but can vary in direction between each pull. Shooters fill all 5 stations at the beginning of each game, and shooters alternate shots. There are five shots at each station before rotating to the next position for a grand total of 25 shots per shooter per game.

Trap is traditionally much easier for beginning shooters as much less movement is required by the shooter.

Trap is a 25-target game shot over 5 stations. Each station or “post” is in an arc 16 yards from the trap house or trap bunker.

Each post will shoot 5 targets. Post 1 will shoot one, then Post 2 will shoot one, and so on until each shooter has taken 5 shots.

At this point, the shooters will rotate to the right, with post 5 moving to post 1. The cycle will then repeat, with the shooter who started on post 1 leading off each time.
